Matt Rodriguez Driving without a License and Improper Plates

The Dayton Daily News Reported:

LEBANON — A city councilman was cited last week for driving with a suspended license and improper license plates.

By Justin McClelland, Staff Writer Updated 10:18 PM Tuesday, January 24, 2012

Matt Rodriguez was pulled over at 11:22 p.m. Jan. 16 at the intersection of Broadway and Mechanic streets in Lebanon for erratic driving, police records show. He was not cited for his driving, but while police were checking his license, it was discovered he had a suspended license.

Rodriguez said Tuesday the incident was a misunderstanding and accepted blame for driving without a license.

Rodriguez said his license had been suspended for 90 days following a previous traffic altercation. He did not elaborate. However, he had been granted privileges to drive to and from work.

Rodriguez said he did not realize the privileges were valid only for certain times of the day and that he was driving home from a work function at the time he was pulled over after the allowable times.

Rodriguez said he was pulled over because he was making a left turn onto Mechanic, but changed his mind and started to turn in the other direction.

As for the charge of fictitious plates, Rodriguez said he had just purchased a new car from a private individual and had not had the chance to transfer the title properly.

“I have too great a respect for our police and courts to deliberately disobey them,” Rodriguez said. “If I thought for a second I was in violation of my privileges, I would have pulled over.”

Rodriguez’s case is being heard in Lebanon Municipal Court, but a date has not been set, according to court records. He could face a fine if found guilty.

Rodriguez Nominated for 2011 Shittake Award

We ran across this interesting awards blog. Seems Matt Rodriguez is nominated for Worst Politico (political pandering).

http://shiitakeawards.blogspot.com/2011/07/nothing-is-worse-than-pandering.html

Matt Rodriguez, Lebanon OH city councilman: Matt Rodriguez is a big fat fish in a tiny pond. He makes the list for complaining taxpayer dollars are “wasted” on giving assistance to a disabled person because he is on the sex offender list.

We  must add that one of the disabled people Matt verbally attacked was a woman and none of these disabled folks are predators, as Matt unseemingly called them.  We think name calling is not a very dignified activity for an elected official.

Ex-wife filed protection order against J. Matt Rodriguez

“Rebecca Rodriguez filed the civil claim and pressed criminal charges against Matt Rodriguez after she alleged her husband had threatened to kill her during an Oct. 4 argument between the two in Greene County.” Western-Star.com 2/24/2010

Rodriguez Running for Office?

Wow. We are surprised Matt Rodriguez is running for Lebanon, OH City Council. With his criminal record, foreclosure and default on a large US Small Business Loan we do not find him fit for office.

Additionally his support for SB 5 makes him in opposition to union families.  Hopefully the good people of Lebanon will boot Rodriguez out.

Here are the other candidates:

Jim Dearie, Stephen L. Kaiser, Mark Messer, James Reinhard and Rebecca Tassoni

Rodriguez pet ordinance may be unconstitutional

Matt Rodriguez talked the Lebanon, OH city council into an extreme ordinance that bans people who have committed any type of sex related crime from, well, just about anywhere.

He was warned this ordinance would not withstand legal muster. Matt went ahead anyway and got it passed with little public input in just a few weeks. His fellow Council members had no choice but to vote in yes or they might look soft on crime. Rodriguez did not consult crime prevention experts or look for any evidence that banishment schemes work.  They do not.

Last week the Ohio Supreme Court ruled in the Williams decision the Ohio Adam Walsh Act cannot be applied retroactively. They ruled Ohio’s current registry scheme is not about protecting the public but is simply punishing offenders. The Ohio high court made it clear that they will no longer tolerate laws that soak up our tax payer monies but do nothing to serve the public.

We hope the Tea Party will take notice of Lebanon’s extreme big brother approach to spending tax dollars. They perhaps have a City Council candidate who is not afraid to look smart on crime.

Rodriguez up against Anti SB 5 Movement

Matt Rodriguez endorsed Shannon Jones and supported her anti public union idea before it was presented to Ohio law makers.  Recent poll shows 56% of Ohioans want SB 5 repealed. 1.3 million people signed the petition to repeal SB 5.

Rodriguez Re-election Site Hypocritical

Straight from Rodriguez’s campaign website:

My faith in God is my strength, my love for my family is my motivation, and the protection of our children is my mission.

My love for my family is my motivation: Rodriguez told his ex-wife their problems could be resolved with two bullets. He was charged with domestic abuse and convicted of disorderly conduct. This does not sound very loving. 09 CR B 01983

Protection of our children is my mission: Rodriguez talked the City Council into passing an ordinance proven to be ineffective. He targeted a low level female former offender who is not a predator. How is that protecting our children?

All we see is that such nonsense diverts resources away from education and programs that really do prevent child abuse, which by the way Matt, happens most often in a child’s home by someone the child knows well, like a relative.
